                    "What" IS the New Moon??

The "new moon" is actually the "beginning" of the phases of the moon cycle. It marks the beginning of each new month.

In the Strong's Concordance it is #2320 chodesh (kho-desh)- meaning the new moon, month. It comes from the root word #2318 chadash (khaw-dash)- meaning to be new, to rebuild, renew, repair. [#2319 chadash (khaw-dawsh) also comes from the same root word- and means new, fresh, new thing.]

* Psalm 81:3- Blow the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

YHWH told Moses (Numbers 10:10) "Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginning of months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your Elohyim: I am YHWH your Elohyim."

This is pretty much all we have telling us anything about "celebrating" during the new moon; although there are quite a few Scripture references showing where it was observed as a "feast day" (and it still is). There are many traditions, but the only thing I can find in the Scriptures about "how" to observe it is "the blowing of the trumpets" (as mentioned above). Now... since we no longer offer animal sacrifices--- I would be inclined to think we should blow the trumpets in gratitude and thankfulness to YHWH. The blowing of the trumpets are "to be a memorial before our GOD". So, I would conclude, as long as one blows the trumpets during the new moon as a memorial-- it would please YHWH and fulfil His desire for His people to remember His provision for us.

*Note- I, personally, think it is important to talk about "why" the trumpets are being blown and to teach your children about it (if you have children). Anything else you incorporate into your "celebration" is totally up to you!
