A very well known and frequently quoted passage from the Christian bible...
Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians (Phil.2:5-11),
" Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
There is much to be said about these verses, but I want to focus on verses 10 & 11 (the underlined verses above). Paul is attributing to "Jesus" what YHWH said concerning HIMSELF. YHWH sent the prophet Isaiah to Israel... and He said to them (through His chosen prophet),
" But Israel shall be saved in YHWH with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. For thus saith YHWH that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: I am YHWH; and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I YHWH speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? Have not I YHWH? and there is no God else beside ME; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside Me.
Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto ME every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
Surely, shall one say, in YHWH have I righteousness and strength: even to Him shall men come; and all that are incensed against Him shall be ashamed. In YHWH shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory." Is. 45: 17-25
(emphasis added by me)
YHWH made it CLEAR that it is HE, and He ALONE, that every knee shall bow to and every tongue shall swear... there is NO one else, not even a "coming son".... and WHAT will they be "swearing" (or saying)? Confessing that Jesus Christ is YHWH, for YHWH's glory?? NO. The next verse says WHAT they will be swearing/saying: that in YHWH they have righteousness and strength. Not to mention, these words were spoken to ISRAEL-- with whom YHWH has made covenant with. They were not spoken to the heathen/pagan nations/people... or to a "gentile church"... they were spoken to the people YHWH has covenanted with-- letting them (and "everyone"/ us) KNOW that IN YHWH all the seed of Israel shall be justified and glory! HaleluYAH!! Praise YHWH!!
YHWH *also* said (through Isaiah), "To WHOM will ye liken ME, and make ME EQUAL, and COMPARE ME, that we may be LIKE?" (Is. 46:5--emphasis added by me) How does Paul's words about Jesus (above, Phil. 2:6) compare to THAT (Is. 46:5)?? Jesus, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God?? DANGEROUS!.....
Isaiah 46:9-10~
"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is NONE else; I am God and there is NONE LIKE ME. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do my pleasure:" (emphasis added by me).
